“To recruit, train, and provide the highest quality training for law enforcement personnel, instilling professionalism, integrity, and respect to enhance public safety and service.” Santa Fe’s County Sheriff’s Office partners with NM DPS Training Academy to ensure all candidates are trained properly and set up for success in their career with the Sheriff’s Office.
ACADEMY OVERVIEW
- Full-time (Sunday evening-Friday afternoon)
- “Live in” campus during the weeks
- State-of-the-art facilities and training program
- 675 hours of basic training
- Class sizes limited to 60 students
- Includes criminal law, traffic law, firearms training, physical fitness, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, report writing, and community policing

- Dedicated full time academy staff and experienced, professional instructor
- Firearms Range: For live-fire exercises and marksmanship training.
- Driving Track: Used for emergency vehicle operations training.
- Gymnasium: For physical fitness training and defensive tactics practice.
- Simulators: For realistic training scenarios, including use-of-force and decision-making exercises.
- Advanced Training: For certified officers, the academy offers advanced courses to enhance their skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Advanced firearms, crisis intervention, leadership development, investigation techniques, and specialized areas like SWAT and K-9 handling.
