Captain Robert J. Garcia began his law enforcement career in 2008 with the Bernalillo Police Department as a Police Service Aide. In 2009, he was hired as a police officer with the Cuba Police Department and graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in 2010.
In 2012, Captain Garcia lateraled to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, where he served in patrol operations before being assigned to the DWI Enforcement Unit. In 2013, Captain Garcia became a member of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. In 2015, he made history by becoming the Sheriff’s Office’s first motorcycle deputy. Over the years, Captain Garcia promoted through each supervisory rank within patrol operations.
In 2023, after attaining the rank of Lieutenant, he was appointed as the SWAT Team Commander. In addition to his law enforcement career, Captain Garcia proudly serves as an active member of the New Mexico Army National Guard with G Company Aviation Unit.
